Demand for polyethylene in Russia is continuing to grow, thanks to the strong domestic economy. While the country was a net exporter of plastics until recently, the situation has been reversed since 2005. According to an analysis by the
Moscow-based market research company Creon, domestic consumption rose from 704,300 t in 2000 to an estimated 1,169,000 t in 2006 and has therefore overtaken local production.
